This is the mission chapel at the Mission San Diego de Alcala. It features a medieval choir stall, brought over from Spain. The front of the chapel shows statues that are most likely made of terra cotta of Saint Bernadine of Sienna, Junipero Serra, Father Jaime, St. Francis of Assisi. According to the Mission's docent, La Capilla was built in 1977 to house the choir stalls, throne and alter which originally came from a Carmelite Monastery in Plasencia, Spain. They date to the 1300s. They are built of wood with no nails being used. They are grooved together. The seats in the stalls are meant to be raised so that the monks could stand while singing. The eagle is a symbol of resurrection and signifies strength and victory. La Capilla's floors are from Our Lady of Guadalupe Basilica in Mexico City. The cross is made of Granite. Outside, the statues are made by local artist/sculptor James Hubbell.
