"Prachanda Garjane" is the second song of Nuton O Sonaton 3, the third part of the Nuton O Sonaton series from Times Music. It is Bramhasangeet based on Raga Bhupali and set to Surfaktaal. Here, the song is succeeded by my own composition, a Chaturang in Raga Bhupali -- "Devadhidev Shankar". A chaturang uses four different types of lyrics -- Brajbhasha, Bols (syllables) of Tarana and Pakhawaj and Sargams (Notations). This composition is in adoration of the divine being -- Shiva, who is the protector, as well as the destroyer, who ushers in destruction only to reconstruct. The chaturang follows as a natural extension of the Rabindrasangeet. The composition has been inspired by the Rabindrasangeet. but is not an imitation of the same, neither is it a Hindi version of the original. The Rabindrasangeet and the chaturang has been brilliantly arranged by Sarode maestro and music arranger Prattyush Banerjee. A basic electronic arpeggio forms the backbone of the entire song like a "Nagma" that accompanies a Tabla or Pakhawaj solo in Indian classical music. Intricate bols (syllables) of pakhawaj have been used as a layakari (Rhythmic improvisations) throughout the track in all major interludes. This is consistent with the theme of the song and the chaturang which uses syllables as well. Both the compositions unite and end in a climactic finish. The album was recorded in Studio Vibrations (Kolkata) by Goutam Basu, who is one of the best known sound recordists of our times. This video has been made by Argha and Sohom, two of my young friends who are engineers by profession and have a passion for photography and films. I congratulate them for their hard work and sincerity and for doing a good job even with very basic equipment and infrastructure.
