✅THROUGH THE HEART OF MANILA : A WALK THROUGH LAGUSNILAD UNDERPASS || MANILA CITY ||

The Lagusnilad Underpass in Manila comprises both vehicular and pedestrian passages that facilitate movement between key city areas. Vehicular Underpass: Constructed in the 1960s, the Lagusnilad vehicular underpass was the first of its kind in the Philippines and Asia. It replaced the at-grade intersection of Taft and Padre Burgos Avenues near Manila City Hall. Over the years, the underpass experienced flooding issues, particularly during the monsoon season, due to high rainfall and runoff from the Intramuros Golf Course. These problems were addressed in 2014 with the installation of a new pumping system and drainage improvements. In 2023, the city government initiated further rehabilitation, leading to its reopening on November 28, 2023, with enhanced lighting and infrastructure. Pedestrian Underpass: The pedestrian underpass connects Manila City Hall to the historic Intramuros district, running beneath the busy Taft Avenue. Before renovations, it was known for poor lighting and safety concerns. In 2019, under Mayor Isko Moreno's administration, a major renovation was undertaken. The refurbished underpass, inaugurated on August 24, 2020, features non-slip slate tiles, 24/7 lighting, security cameras, and a 25-meter mural titled "Masigasig na Maynila," depicting significant events and figures in Manila's history. The design draws inspiration from Spanish Colonial influences and the art displays of the National Museum of the Philippines. Today, the Lagusnilad Underpass stands as a testament to Manila's commitment to preserving its historical heritage while providing safe and efficient infrastructure for its residents and visitors. 📌 Hashtags: #Manila #Lagusnilad #ExploreManila #ManilaUnderpass #Intramuros #ManilaCity #TravelPH #UrbanExploration #WalkThroughHistory #HiddenManila #StreetArtPH #PinoyTravel
