The Adventurer Returns Performed by Mike Disney A cover of the theme to "The Adventurer", by John Barry December 2023 Recorded and mixed on AKAI MPC Live II hardware This song's been in my head since childhood. I first head it on some TV credits, but didn't know the name of the series it was from. I tried to reproduce it from memory with the aid of a friend Adam some years later, and came up with the track "60's Dick" instead. Many more years later and I heard the original theme again on the radio. Now the internet had arrived, it was not too much trouble to find out the original was one of John Barry's legendary themes; this time to "the Adventurer". The Adventurer was a 60's detective, who was also a very successful businessman, actor, spy, athlete, philosopher, philanthropist, pilot, ladies man, diplomat, etc. The part was played by Gene Barry (more famous perhaps from his starring role in 1952's "War of the Worlds" film.) Also co-starring was yet another Barry; this time Barry Morse - with Catherine Schell, (both also being in Space 1999 - a TV series also blessed with several great themes). I've always thought this was one of John Barry's best themes, but there are so many more to choose from! I took the liberty of making an unauthorised tribute to this haunting tune as the first experimental track on my new MPC hardware, recording and mixing to file directly. Thanks for listening!
