In this message, we return to the book of Genesis, picking up our series in Genesis chapter 3. Today’s passage takes us to Genesis 3:14–15, often called the Protoevangelium—the first announcement of the gospel in Scripture. We begin with a brief recap of Genesis chapters 1 and 2, reaffirming that creation is real history, not poetry or allegory. God created the heavens and the earth in six normal days, made mankind in His image, established marriage, family, and work as divine institutions, and declared His creation “very good.” These truths form the foundation of a Christian worldview, including the sanctity of life, human purpose, and moral accountability. In Genesis 3, we encounter the fall of man: a real temptation, a real choice, and real consequences. We reject both Open Theism, which denies God’s foreknowledge, and extreme determinism that makes God the author of sin. Adam and Eve freely sinned, bringing corruption, death, and curse into the world. This message focuses on the Adamic Covenant and God’s judgment following the fall, with a three-part outline from Genesis 3:14–15: The Serpent The Satan The Saviour We explore the curse placed on the literal serpent and the spiritual reality behind it—Satan, whose defeat is guaranteed. We examine the biblical theme of descent versus exaltation: Satan cast down again and again, while Christ is lifted up through the cross, resurrection, ascension, and coming kingdom. We then turn to Genesis 3:15, the first messianic prophecy, pointing to: The virgin birth The cross The final defeat of Satan A future, literal Antichrist The ultimate victory of Jesus Christ Drawing from 2 Thessalonians 2, Revelation, and the New Testament epistles, we distinguish between speculation and Scripture. The Bible never tells believers to look for the Antichrist—but to wait for Christ, our blessed hope. Finally, we see Christ as the fulfilment of the bronze serpent lifted up in the wilderness (John 3:14–15). Jesus became a curse for us so that we might be redeemed from the curse. This is the heart of the gospel: substitution, imputation, and salvation by faith alone. Whether you are exploring Christianity or are already a believer, this passage reminds us that hope was proclaimed at the very beginning. The world may be growing darker—but Christ is coming, and His victory is certain.
