Don’t Assume, Ask | Pastor Kendall Koenig | Mark 10:46-52 This passage has always struck me—a blind man cries out to Jesus, Jesus stops, invites him over and asks him, “What do you want me to do for you?” Isn’t it obvious Jesus—he’s blind! Heal him. But Jesus respects the man to much to make assumptions. He asks. Jesus knows the dangers that come when we assume. Too often our loving others gets tripped up because we assume and don’t clarify expectations. “I know what they want/need.” “I know what they are thinking.” “They should just know what I need/want.” Instead of loving people, we hurt people when we assume. Or we carry resentments because we think they should just read our minds. Loving well takes humble, honest communication, humble honest questions.
