We ditch the van for a swag and beach camp up the remote west of the 4wd mecca of Australia, Fraser Island. YEEEWWWW! If CAMPING, 4wding, beaches, fishing, sunrises, sunsets and all-round good Aussie fun is your thing then Fraser Island is hard to beat. This place exceeded all of our expectations and more. Soph would say it’s her favourite camping and 4wd place on our big lap road trip of Australia so far. Big call! We hit up the West first and even on a long weekend, we had both camps all to ourselves. Why? Because there are fewer facilities (aka no toilets), many campers choose to play it safe on the East so you’re spoilt for choice with empty, white sand beaches and palm trees to set up camp. Join us in Part 1 (and subsequent Pprts) as we throw ourselves down sand dunes, kayak, swim, help others out of boggy situations :D explore Lake McKenzie, SS Maheno, Eli Creek, Lake Wabby and have a chance encounter with a dingo. We’re just getting started on our Queensland road trip and can’t wait to show you guys more islands, 4wd beaches, fishing spots, coral reefs, rainforests as we head up the east coast of Australia.
