After a sometimes thrilling, sometimes bumpy run in the national spotlight, Alaska saw its governor defeated for US vice president. Alaskans in Palin's hometown expressed disappointment in the election results. The evening started with excitement as Palin's friends and family held election night parties all over Wasilla. Stevens led with 48 percent of the vote compared with 47 percent for Begich, with 66 percent of precincts reporting.
