Achieving a high-fidelity system is the goal for many music lovers as well as audiophiles. But what does high-fidelity mean and why is it important to consider when building out your system? The bottom line is high-fidelity means to replicate the original signal as faithfully as possible. We're looking for accuracy of sound, wide frequency response, very low distortion or noise, and more up for debate, an emotional connection to the music. Audiophiles are often chasing after the essence of the signal, wanting to hear what the artist intended be heard when they made their recordings. They spend their time refining and refining based on the capabilities of the equipment rather than the sound quality they may be perceiving. This can be difficult for non-audiophiles to grasp, as many pieces of equipment can cause distortion or "flavor" the signal to make it sound different than may have been intended and/or based on the preferences of the listener i.e. by using an equalizer to make the bass or treble more dynamic. At the end of the day a high-fidelity system is one that YOU enjoy listening to, that sounds good to your ear, and that provides you with the emotional effect you're looking for (or hoping for) when you put the vinyl on the turntable. Whether your system cost $500 or $50000 doesn't make a difference in this debate. High-fidelity can be achieved on any budget. It's all a matter of degree when you talk about the quality and performance of a piece of electronics. But that doesn't mean you can't achieve a higher level of fidelity for $500 than you could with $1000 or vice versa. Price is only one component of this discussion and the technology, design, quality, craftmanship, and materials play a larger role, at least in the grand scheme of things. The price is a reflection of the quality and designs and materials and fidelity, certainly; which is why you may have some pieces that are astronomically higher priced than others. Ultimately, our job at Sound Approach is to help our clients find the best pieces to suit their needs and desires based on their current budget and what they hope to achieve with their music playback. We pride ourselves on knowing what works best for most people in any given price range as well as accommodating our clients who need specialized expertise based on their components, rooms, or other factors that make them unique.
