A very detailed case study of narcissistic abuse, focusing on the concept of gaslighting. Very interesting this movie emerges on this topic from as far back as 1944. The perfect type of persona for Charles Boyer, yet quite a swing from his more purely romantic leading man roles. And amazingly, only as I'm writing this, I see that Ingrid Bergman won the Best Actress Oscar. Of course she did, her performance is so natural it really allows you to study the intricate details of the abusive dynamic going on between the two. Joseph Cotten as the enamored cop who lieterally saves the day. Directed by George Cukor, and also oscar winner for best B/W interior decoration, which make sense too, beautifully done.
