Willie J & The Bad Books was a Melbourne-based hard blues-rock band formed in 2022 by Willie J Maxwell (formerly of Loser) during COVID-19 lockdowns. The band broke up in early 2024, leading Willie to form the new power trio, Willie J's 6v6s.Formation & Members: Formed in 2022, the group initially consisted of Willie J Maxwell (vocals/guitar), Fru Parsons (drums), and Matt Forge (bass). They were soon joined by Rick Steward (guitar/lap steel) and Eileen Hodgkins (vocals/organ). Style: Their music is described as a blend of hard rock, blues, and soul, often drawing comparisons to Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, and Motörhead. Active Period: They quickly became a staple on the Melbourne live scene, performing at venues like Cherry Bar and festivals such as Boogie and Queenscliff. Releases: The band released several singles and videos, including "Backdoor Man" in 2022. Breakup: Willie J announced the end of the band in early 2024 to pursue a new project.
