Join us for a slice of real village life in northern Malawi! In this episode, we take our trusty 1979 Land Rover Series 3, the short wheelbase 88-inch legend, for a quick mission from Msasa Mountain Camp to the local maize mill in Manchewe Village. Up here in the Manchewe Valley, maize is life. Every household brings its white maize to the village mill to be ground into flour, the key ingredient for Malawi’s staple food, nsima. It’s the fuel that keeps families, farmers, and adventurers going every single day. But what makes this maize mill special is how it runs. It’s powered by pure hydropower from Manchewe Waterfall, the tallest waterfall in Malawi, just a stone’s throw from the village. This entire community runs on the energy of falling water, a brilliant local solution built by a local villager, harnessing the force of nature to empower his community. (We’ll dive deeper into this incredible story in a future episode!) Pietro joins the ride, and of course Rupert, our fearless adventure dog, never misses a chance to be in the Landy! 🐾 If you’re enjoying this journey of building Msasa Eco Camps in Malawi, one episode at a time, then hit that LIKE button, SUBSCRIBE, and follow along as we share the beauty, culture, and everyday magic of life in the Manchewe Valley.
