What is a safe space?

What is a safe space for you? For many, a safe space is a place of rest from the physical burden of protecting yourself and the emotional burden of justifying yourself. Not only is it a refuge from those who would do you harm, but it is also a refuge from the well-intentioned who simply do not understand you. As #autismacceptancemonth comes to a close, we’d like to share one last video from these self-advocates who described what “safe space” means to them. April may be over, but listening to autistic voices and curating safe spaces with your autistic peers, family, students, and more are important year-round.
