Most patients who come for surgery for gall bladder stones are worried about post-operative problems, long-term post-operative issues in the form of any lifestyle changes or diet that they have to follow. What we have to understand is the function of the gall bladder. The main function of the gall bladder is to just store the bile that is secreted by the liver and then concentrate the bile and then it is released into the gut when we eat. So in most patients with gall bladder stones or with infected gall bladder, that functions is already lost and the body has already taken over the function and the liver is directly secreting the bile into the gut. So generally, no changes need to be done in the lifestyle or with diet. The two things that you should remember generally is heavy meals will have some amount of bloating because of cholecystectomy or when we have a heavy carbohydrate and a fat meal, but over time maybe 3 to 6 months the body will get over it and no change needs to be done. Lifestyle wise again, there is no change, it is a very small surgery that recovers within 4 to 5 days back to work and no long term changes of lifestyle or diet is necessary after gall bladder surgery.
