Normally babies are in cephalic position that is head down position but some of the babies can be in breech position that is when the legs are down, the buttocks and legs of the baby are down in the pelvis of the mother it is called a breech position. Now a days the first delivery with the breech position have become an indication for cesarean section but some of the mothers can have a normal delivery if they are in a low risk category. We can also try a external cephalic version at 37 weeks of pregnancy if they are in a low risk category. In external cephalic version we turn the baby from breech position to cephalic position and then we give them a trial of labor routinely. But in multigravida we can give a trial of labor if they fall into low risk category. Breech deliveries nowadays are not done in primigravida, we are all going for cesarean sections.
