NOTE: Partway through I meant Copper Acetate, not Copper Chloride This is a video detailing some of the chemicals and equipment I keep in my home lab. I do mainly chemistry and electronic projects, but am slowly moving into some biotech things. This just details some of the common chemicals you can get from grocery stores, pharmacies, or dollar stores. You can stock a lab with a bunch of basic chemicals and equipment for under $50 I'd say. I generally wait to buy a chemical until I have a purpose for it, because I don't like just stockpiling chemicals which serve no purpose. As always with home science - use common sense and be careful how you store things and what your environment is when you use them. IE - don't go crazy with bleach or acetone in a confined non-ventilated space. Also be sure to dispose of reaction mixtures properly. If you don't know how - ASK I generally plan experiments ahead of time and decide what I will need, how much of it I will need, what the waste products are (if any) and how they will be dealt with. Being a responsible home-scientist lends credit to the cause and gives us a good name, so practice safety, but don't be afraid do science!
