Coincidentally, Portal is the most difficult Single track of the entire ride. The upper half, in my opinion, isn’t ridiculously technical, but the fact there is a sheer cliff promising certain makes the upper half exceptionally dangerous. If the cliff wasn’t there, this would easily be an “easier” trial. The lower half is very smashy and really difficult without the cliff. A wreck is not catastrophic, however, per capita, this section is very difficult. There is on particular section, which I walk, that advanced maneuvers, like an endo turn are necessary. By this time, average riders should be very tired and I can’t over emphasize that extreme caution should be taken. Advanced and Pro Riders will cruise through Portal like a breeze. Progress Report: I still had to walk a number of sections and had to ride again. Most of this can be blamed on technical skills plus fitness. I performed better on this round, but still need to improve. By careful flying drones in this area, it doesn’t take much to get 400 ft. away from the structure of the cliff side and get over 400 AGL.
