Building a governed data lake. Recorded on: Tuesday, June 2, 2020, 11:00am US Eastern Time Data lakes provide a flexible environment for managing many types of data at scale. In this presentation, we will cover how to open metadata can increase the effectiveness and protection of the data lake and avoid it running into a mighty data swamp. About the Presenter Mandy Chessell CBE FREng CEng FBCS is an IBM Distinguished Engineer, Master Inventor, and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Mandy is a trusted advisor to executives from large organizations, working with them to develop their strategy and architecture relating to the governance, integration and management of information. She is also driving IBM’s strategic move to open metadata and governance through participation in the Egeria open source project. She also serves as the ODPi Technical Steering Committee chairperson. About ODPi Egeria Egeria is the world’s first open source metadata standard. It provides open APIs, event formats, types, and integration logic so organizations can share data management and governance across the entire enterprise without reformatting or restricting the data to a single format, platform, or vendor product. Data governance and security are critical concerns for data-driven organizations. And increasing government regulations ensure that the use and management of metadata will continue to be an important focus for anyone who uses and stores important data.
