Pitawala Pahtana.. Pitawala Pahtana, Riverston is a major entrance to the Knuckles Range in Sri Lanka. It is the northern entrance to the Knuckles Reserve. There are three main roads to this place. The most common and easiest route is the Matale - Ratthota - Illukkumbura road. You can reach this place by taking the Illukkumbura side of that road. It is about 39 km from Matale town. You can also reach it via Dambulla or Mahiyanganaya. Pitawala Pahtana is one of the most popular, beautiful and accessible attractions located in the Knuckles Reserve. Some call this place "heaven on earth". It is often covered in fog throughout the year. It is a common climate in the Knuckles Mountains and is mostly cold and windy. The area is very rich in biodiversity and has very rare and endemic species of flora and fauna. Here you can experience breathtaking panoramic views of the windy gap and beautiful surroundings. Horton Plains National Park - is a unique and large grassland in Sri Lanka, covering about 10 hectares. However, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), this is a rare type of grassland (pathana) that is not found anywhere else in the country. It also has great ecological value. Most parts are covered with a layer of grass. There are also isolated and scattered trees, shrubs and rocks in this area. You need to get a ticket at the entrance to enter this part. Mini world’s end is another attraction in this area. This is located about 800 meters from the entrance. It is a large rock located at one end of the Pitawala pathana.
