January 2016 is the five year anniversary of my blog. To celebrate the milestone, I posted five new posts in the month of January rather than my usual two. Head over now to check out my final post--I take a look at both versions of Blue SWAT's opening theme song TRUE DREAM: http://cclemon99.blogspot.com/2016/01... -------------------- Welcome to my review of the Magistick [マジスティック] from Mahou Sentai Magiranger [魔法戦隊マジレンジャー]! I've said it countless times... I despise this show. I really can't stand Magiranger. That said, I do admire a few things from the show. Magiking is kinda cool...and I enjoy Magired's helmet. If I had to round out my positives to a list of three, I would probably have to throw the Magistick on there too. It's a cool design that has some versatility to it. Sure only three out of the five had a personalized version of the Magistick, but didn't the Turbo Laser have to same deal in Turboranger? The Magistick set comes with all five Magiranger pieces, a logo clip as well as a clip on holster. Magired, Magiyellow, and Magigreen have their own individual weapons formed from the Magistick when various parts are moved around. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with this toy. The interchangeable pieces for each Magiranger are very well made and all five of them are included. If this toy came out today it would probably come with two with the other three pieces being included in some crap toys you otherwise wouldn't have purchased. This is a generous set...and I commend it for being that. On top of that, the individual weapons give it some extra playability. Sure Magired gets the sword, but if you were playing with your friends you could make any Magiranger you want wield the sword version of the Magistick. I like this one quite a bit. The big problem? Ehhh... You might have noticed that this toy is suspiciously quiet. Well, the sound no longer works. It did when I was taking pictures, but when I went to film video of it, the sound on it quit. Bummer. I will say this about my particular Magistick--it was free. Free toys usually get played with before they get donated to me. Even so, the toy isn't destroyed or anything (minor wear really)...so it should've survived. Like any mid-00s to present toy the paint wears off easily. Oh well. All told, this is a pretty solid set. Power Rangers Mystic Force has not one, but two releases of the Magi Staff. Neither one looks as decent as the Bandai Japan one, however. I would just go for the Magiranger version...it's cheap enough to snag (especially in my case). Be sure to check out my blog. Twice monthly I review shows, movies, Tokusatsu CDs, and occasionally make Top 7 lists of the best and worst of Tokusatsu.
