RUNAWAY 1995 F-150, which almost caused any number of horrible accidents, linked to worn-out/plugged/dead IAC valve. Also another potentially dangerous situation discovered during replacement. Other known causes, such as defective (and recalled) cruise control, were found not to be the problem in this case. Watch your IAC in these older vehicles! Some people try cleaning them out, but I've seen very few reports of success with that method, and I don't think it's wise in a valve like this that's 20+ years old, because corrosion or bent stems or other irreparable factors could still cause the same problems, no matter how "cleaned up" it may be. Not worth the few dollars you might save. We got this replacement valve for $56 at AutoZone, and it seems to be working fine -- not only no runaways so far, but it reduced the in-gear idle speed from 35 MPH to 12 MPH, i.e., back to normal. Better than running off a cliff or rear-ending someone on the freeway at 85 miles an hour. :\
