Izu Oshima, Oshima Town, Tokyo, depicted in this animation, is a volcanic island originally formed thousands of years ago through a submarine eruption, which has since grown through multiple subsequent eruptions. The largest of the Izu Islands, the majority of Izu Oshima is located within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, and its natural landscapes and ecosystems are protected because of this. Izu Oshima is also recognized as a Japanese Geopark. Conservation and utilization plans for the island’s valuable local resources are determined and carried out based on a common understanding with the local islanders, as a collaborative effort.
