Using our Robotic Solutions Kuka 6-axis CNC machine to carve Yoda from a tree stump. This was an old tree stump that we got from Dave Leonard Tree Service In Lexington. It was starting to rot on the outer 5-6 inches. We believe it is Sycamore wood but can't be totally sure. The total machine time was about 35 hours. The first tool used was dull and we were worried that it wasn't going to work. After we swapped to a new tool things got much better. A few cracks developed as we relieved tension in the wood. The finished involved a couple hours of sanding and coating with butcher block oil to bring out the grain. The 3D model of Yoda we used was by muckychris on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1702505 I did a little work in Fusion 360 to get it mated to the tree stump properly. The toolpaths were created in Autodesk PowerMill.
