The Becoming a Better Ancestor is a series of lifelong learning content that invites St. Martiners to reflect on how they can become the better versions of themselves for the sake of future generations. Each presenter invited to teach is a Soualigan who is an expert in their field. This episode's presenter: Kyeisha Laurence is an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School and a Master’s in Public Policy candidate at Harvard Kennedy School, where she focuses on advancing maternal health equity through leadership at the intersection of medicine, policy, and community engagement. Born and raised in Saint Martin, she immigrated to the United States in 2013. Kyeisha graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a BS in Cellular Biology and Genetics and a minor in French. A Banneker/Key Scholar, she was recognized as one of the university’s top student leaders, earning the Model Citizenship Award, induction into Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa, and selection as a finalist for the University Medal. At Harvard, Kyeisha has held multiple leadership roles. She served as Co-President of the chapter’s Student National Medical Association, leading an executive board and organizing large-scale programming and community-building initiatives. She is the Marketing and Media Director for the MV3 Foundation, where she has driven strategic growth, sponsor engagement, and brand visibility. She also served as Co-Chair of the Empower Conference, a free event for hundreds of underrepresented pre-medical students. Currently, Kyeisha is a Zuckerman Fellow at the Center for Public Leadership. Her current work centers on research and applied policy projects focused on strengthening community engagement in medical education, advancing reproductive justice, and improving access to high-quality obstetric care. As a future OB/GYN, Kyeisha envisions a career that bridges clinical care and policy reform to combat maternal health disparities and uplift historically marginalized communities in the United States and the Caribbean.
