[University Project on Animal Behaviour] Crypsis (camouflage) is a well-documented anti-predator strategy amongst Cephalopods. The limited landmark diversity of the mimic octopus' habitat, means this species has had to be creative in how they employ their body patterning abilities. Rather than mimic the landscape, they mimic their neighbours! Shifting the strategy from one of predator detection to one of predator recognition. Modifying not only their appearance, but also their behaviour. They are so successful in their deceptive abilities, the species was only first discovered in 1998! images/videos used are appropriately attributed within the presentation.
