America responded by initiating Project Mercury, and they were able to successfully send John Glenn into orbit around Earth in 1962. Finally, it was America's turn, leading in 1969 with the Apollo 11 mission landing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon and becoming the first to ever step on its surface. It was a day when human history was scripted to change forever.
