LESSON NO 1 “FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT” Gal 5:22-23 1. Themes of the Galatians: 1.1, Galatians is one of the most important writings of Paul in establishing the importance of Grace compared to the Law. Some Jewish Christians and false teachers believed that to be a Christian it is necessary to obey the Law of Moses along with the faith in Jesus. Paul corrects them all that the Faith in Jesus is sufficient for our salvation. 1.2, No Good news apart from Jesus weather Man or angel. Cursed is the one who brings the good news apart from Jesus. (Gal 1:6-9) 1.3, Our Christian life is the result of our faith in Christ by showing the fruit of the Holy Spirit not by obeying of the Law of Moses. John 15:4-5 HOLY SPIRIT: For the details, please see lesson no one on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. An Outline: 1. What is Holy Spirit? 2. Gifts of the Holy Spirit, 3. The works of the flesh 5:19-21 4. Fruit of the Holy Spirit, 1. What is The Holy Spirit? 1, The Third Person of the Holy Trinity, 1.1, The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity and undoubtedly the least understood member of the Godhead. 1.2, As God, the Holy Spirit has existed through all eternity. In the Old Testament, he is also referred to as the Spirit, the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of the Lord. In the New Testament, he is sometimes called the Spirit of Christ. 1.3, A member of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit had no beginning and has no end. With the Father and Son, he existed before creation. The Spirit dwells in heaven but also on Earth in the heart of every believer. 2, The holy Spirit is Divine, 1) Worshiped with the Father and the Son, (2 Cor 13:14) 2) Does divine works, 3) Inspiring Scripture: (2Peter 1:20-21; Matt 19:4-5), 4) Regenerating hearts, (Titus 3:5), 5) Creating, sustaining, and giving life to all things: (Gen 1:2;Job 26:13;34:14-15; Psalm 104:29-30). 6) He is eternal (Heb 9:14; only God is eternal), 7) He is Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscient, (1 Cor 2:10-11), and is actually referred to as God, (Acts 5:3-4; 1 Cor 3:16; 6:19-20). 3, The Personhood of the Holy Spirit 1, Issue: pneuma is neuter and, therefore, the spirit is referred to as “it” not “He”; (in a Gnostic sense) 2, In (John 14:16). Another is “allos” which is like Jesus. Jesus referred to Him as “aparakletos” 1. To build up the Body of Christ: (1 Corinthians 14: 4,12). 2. To encourage: (1 Corinthians 14:3,31). 3. To comfort: (1 Corinthians 14:3). 4. To praise God, bless and giving thanks: (1 Corinthians 14:16, 5. To build yourself up: (1 Corinth 14:4; Jude 20). 6. To win people for Christ: (1 Corinthians 14:23-25). 7. To instruct, uses the word "learn." (1 Corinthians 14:31 2.
