In generating content about the Arab and Islamic world, there is tremendous limitation with the quantity of visual historic content especially for the last 3 to 4 hundreds years of history. One significant source is the substantial body of Orientalist art that was generated by colonial powers at the time. This expressive art misrepresented the Arab and Muslim identity intentionally with a desire to create and depict a clear separation of humanity between the Occident, the West and the Orient, the East, that reflected a wildness, uncivilised, diseased both physically and morally, and backwards peoples.
