Rocks of Solitude

The Rocks of Solitude are the highlight of the Blue Door walk in Edzell. I found an extended route that starts a little south of the blue door, with a walk through beech woods, the river running through a red sandstone gorge. As the stroll progressed over the bridge further north, the rocks changed dramatically to paler bluer smoother bedrock (psammite), via a zone of incredibly stratified colourful outcrops (serpentinite?). At one point near the river, a short dell shows a dip in the ground covered with large boulders, difficult to walk over That progression can only be one thing - and on checking the iGeology app later, indeed that was the Highland Boundary Fault - right in the damage zone.
