Created by author, linguist and scholar Edith Pargeter under the pen name Ellis Peters (1913 - 1995) the Cadfael Chronicles series of books spanned the years 1977 until 1994 including 20 novels and a collection of short stories. The titular character Cadfael was a Benedictine Monk, who had lived a varied, well traveled (for the times) and violent life preceding his adoption of the strict orders of monastic life. Today we follow in his footsteps taking the monthly journey he made from the Abbey In Shrewsburys “Foregate” to the leper hospital on Wenlock road and the fringes of the dangerous Long Wood to replenish medical supplies.
