🎓 The Collapse of Academia in Norway: What No One Is Talking About 🇳🇴 A former university professor reveals a crisis unfolding in plain sight. For the first time in Norway’s modern history, something unthinkable is happening: academics are being laid off. At the same time, research funding is being quietly slashed, and universities are being pressured to generate revenue by increasing student enrollments—even as funding per student is being reduced. This dangerous double-bind is slowly but steadily draining the life out of Norway’s once-vibrant academic and research institutions. As someone who fled a collapsing academic system in the United States, I moved to Norway more than a decade ago with the hope that things would be different here—that knowledge, research, and intellectual rigor would be protected and valued. But after years of trying to continue my academic career in Norway, including applying for jobs since 2012, I’ve seen an alarming trend unfold. In 2024, I made the difficult decision to walk away from academia altogether, as opportunities dried up and the system began to mirror the very failures I thought I’d left behind in America. 💡 Why This Matters This isn’t just about my personal journey. This is about a country slowly losing its academic soul. Layoffs in academia? It’s happening—for the first time ever. No jobs for even accomplished researchers and professors? That’s the new reality. Internal hiring practices that lock out qualified international scholars? Commonplace. Shrinking research budgets, reduced international student recruitment, and weak policy leadership? All of it is true. And yet—the media is silent. The public is unaware. Even the major research union (Forskerforbundet) has been strangely passive, failing to raise the alarm, call for strikes, or push the issue into public discourse. This video is a call to attention. ⚠️ A Warning from the Future If this sounds familiar, it should. This is exactly the same pattern that led to the decline of the American university system: Reduced funding for public research. A shift toward tuition-driven survival—more students, less quality. A reliance on underqualified or overburdened faculty. Student debt crises and collapsing institutions. It’s a doom loop. And it’s starting to happen here in Norway—silently, incrementally, and with potentially devastating long-term effects. 🚨 Why You Should Care A country that fails to invest in knowledge is a country that slowly stops innovating. It stops asking hard questions. It stops attracting the best minds. And eventually—it falls behind. This video is a warning, a personal reflection, and a plea for awareness. Whether you're a student, a researcher, a policymaker, or just a citizen who cares about Norway’s future, I urge you to watch, think, and talk about this issue. Because once a society loses its academic core, it doesn’t come back easily. 🔔 Please like, share, and subscribe if this message resonates with you. I want to hear from students, professors, and anyone who’s been affected by this shift.
