A tribute to the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive (EARPHONES RECOMMENDED). Back in the 80s/90s, when today's retro games were simply the latest games - we had no 4K widescreen TVs, no open-world/3D environments, no online/multiplayer gaming, no headsets, and nowhere near the graphical capabilities of today's consoles. Yet... somehow it didn't matter. On the contrary, we were content. We may not have had everything we wanted... but we certainly had everything we needed. Admittedly, we did crave the idea of "save states" and "wireless" controllers. Passwords also, at times, were unnecessarily complicated. The occasional game was far too short. But on a huge plus side, we weren't plagued with unnecessary 8 button+ joypads, or ridiculous "content overload" (endless collectables / trophies / DLC add-ons etc). We had games that you could pick up and complete in a single session, or put down and try again later. Nowadays, games have evolved into such large, time-consuming beasts, you'll only ever (realistically) be able to commit to a "handful of games for life" (rather than enjoying the pleasure of variety). Games of the 80s/90s were either two-dimensional or isometric, making beautiful use of pixelated sprites. By today's standards, these are now considered humble and simplistic. Yet, whilst you are almost guaranteed to be charmed "aesthetically" by modern day games... many of them leave you feeling short-changed of that "old school magic". 80s/90s game developers couldn't charm us with jaw dropping graphics/cut-scenes alone (not to the degree they can today). Therefore it seemed much more emphasis was put into the "fun factor" of a game. Pushing 16-bit technology to it's very limits, and delighting us all with some of the most memorable, addictive, gameplay & music. Offering us tremendous replay value, even to this day. I've had a lot of fun gathering this music, re-discovering some cherished tunes of old, and blown away by many that passed me by. I hope you enjoy them too. It was a near impossible task, deciding upon just one (10 second) tune per game, but I've done my best. And some games I really had to scrape that barrel deep! (Crazy Bus I'm looking at you!). Juggling this project, along with full time work / family life, has been extremely time consuming. But also a great opportunity to reminisce and submerge myself in nostalgia. I would really love to continue with it, and next, give Nintendo the credit they fully deserve. But, for now I'm giving myself a break. I'm only a one-man band and my website is a "work in progress" (https://joypad.tv/). I would love nothing more than to work on it full time, but sadly, there just aren't enough hours in the day! If any of you could spare any time to leave just a couple of cheats on there (you must register on the site to do so) it would be massively appreciated. Freeing me up to concentrate my efforts on all the other areas. IF YOU HAVE ANY FEEDBACK OR COMMENTS - PLEASE DO LEAVE ME A MESSAGE ON HERE. I WILL ALWAYS STRIVE TO RESPOND. Thank you for watching, for reading, and hopefully for subscribing. Happy retro gaming!
