Hello guys, welcome back to another life-saving treatment mission carried out to treat a poor elephant who was suffering from great pain. This poor being was first noticed by a group of villagers who had been passing by to reach their agricultural land. For sure, they are unable to give up a chance to help save a valuable life. So, one villager made an emergency help call to the wildlife conservation office. “There is an elephant who is severely injured, it has visible injuries in its leg and back area,” he stated. Of course, the officials know by now, this elephant is in a severe condition. With years of experience in wildlife conservation, the officials understood that this creature required quick medical assistance. So they rushed to the spot as quickly as possible, with the necessary equipment and medicine. Their skilled eyes instantly determined the seriousness of the gunshot wound on its front leg and the deep wound on its back. The crew swiftly moves into action, the doctor prepares a suitable dosage of anesthesia based on the animal's body weight, and it is darted using a tranquilizer gun. After around 15 minutes of waiting, the elephant is sedated in a standing position. The animal showed visible evidence of violent acts it had faced. A noticeable bullet wound damaged its front leg, resulting in a huge swelling, indicating the severity of the shot. Meanwhile, another deep wound had been carved into its back as a reminder of the hardships and the pain the creature had faced. This wound is predicted to be a result of a battle between elephants or the elephant falling onto a sharp edge. The doctor started the treatment right away. At first, he injected disinfectant solution into the wound in its back area. This process removes any necrotic tissue and pus from the wound. Then he uses forceps and cotton wool to remove necrotic tissues from the wound. An officer was assigned to prepare the medications needed. Following the cleaning of the wound, a syringe is used to inject a solution of povidone-iodine and negasunt powder into it. At the same time, Antibiotics, multivitamins, painkillers, and anti-inflammatory drugs are gathered into syringes and prepared for injection. These elephants face up to these types of sad situations as a result of governments' failure to conduct thorough investigations and enforce laws. Addressing this issue demands an organized effort from governments to strengthen existing wildlife protection legislation and promote sustainable land-use practices that take into account both human and elephant requirements. So, these poor elephants die in the exact environment that should have been their haven. "Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character; it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man." Arthur Schopenhauer once stated. Now, let’s go back to the treatment steps. After completing the injection process, it is now time to treat the gunshot wound. At first, the wound on the leg was cleaned with disinfectant solution to remove any necrotic tissue and pus that filled the wound. Then, a solution of povidone-iodine and negasunt powder was injected into the wound. It's understandable to be curious about why the bullet particles in the elephant's leg weren't removed. As you already know, performing large surgeries on wild animals like elephants is impractical. Sedatives used to calm down these wild elephants during treatments can only be given for a short duration of time. Furthermore, carrying out a medical procedure on an elephant requires specialized equipment and an operating center, which are not easily available in the wild. That is why these officials take the required precautions to keep the elephant in the greatest possible condition by administering the appropriate medications. The treatment mission has come to its conclusion, so the veterinary doctor injects the revival medicine. There is one thing we should remember: suffering in excruciating pain without words points out the need for sensitivity. It encourages us to pay closer attention, listen more carefully, and be compassionate to everyone we share this planet with. This elephant will be treated once again after 3 days.
