Experiments by S.D. Burman Dada: Kavi Neeraj, who wrote lyrics for S. D. Burman Dada’s five films, had told us in an interview that Burman Dada used to carry out experiments which other music directors would not dare. This set me thinking and I pursued further to explore it. This pursuit resulted in my writing an article in the online magazine called ‘Silhouette Magazine - Learning and Creativity’. There was an urge to find out more about Burman Dada’s experiments and write about them, supported by an expert in the field. I approached Music director Anand, the elder brother of the Anand-Milind duo of music directors, who readily agreed. The brothers, besides being experts in the field, are also admirers of Burman Dada and his music. Their father, late Chitragupta, a well-known music director of yester years, had specifically told his sons to observe how Dada composed his songs, and how he changed meter from Mukhda to antra, from one antara to another, and back to mukhda so smoothly. This doesn't create monotony, and Dada was an expert in this art. I hope everyone enjoys the information given here..
