Today was another super hot day 41 degrees (106 for Americans?) blerghh and super humid. - Korra was calling me so I came in the aviary to check on her only to find she had dropped even more feathers! So I had a feel and I was blown away by how many new pin feathers she has coming through, it's never ending haha I will upload a video of how many feathers I have collected just in the last month after this video. - I spent about 30mins breaking all the pins on Korra's neck and head, wings and other areas that were ready to come off new feathers grow through as pin/tubes with a blood supply that can be very painful if squeezed or bumped, they can also be very itchy after getting most of them I realised I should be recording some to show you all, however holding a camera with my right hand steady while finding pins with left is very tricky so apologies I didn't get too much footage! Please know that this is only half the pins that are on her, she's literally a porcupine and her tail has massive pins as well as under wings etc. - Roku is not letting me work on his today as I did most of them yesterday, I only get small windows of time where I can touch them like this due to their hormones making them so aviary protective and of each other. - We have about 1month left of summer heat/cyclone season then its back to normal weather where we can go back out regularly on adventures! I cant wait to see Roku & Korra back out in the sunlight with their brand new feathers :D *Remember this time of year every year our birds bunker down due to the intense heat + hormonal behaviour. For the last 4-5 years my video uploads of free flying are made outside of summer not during :) - For those who do not follow instagram, I had to remove Pabu from the aviary due to Roku & Korra being aggressive and territorial, while hosing out Pabu's cage I put him in the aviary for 5mins and before I knew it either Roku or Korra had a go at Pabu and he got a big freight, just like a gecko drops their tail for defence so did Pabu. He now only has x1 tail feather, this would affect his flight pattern and for those who have read through www.adventuresofroku.com/Educational.php you will understand why a change in flight pattern means I need to ground him indoors. So little Pabs is out of action, may be another month or so before he regrows all his tail! - For all Free Flight Training & info please visit www.adventuresofroku.com/Educational.php Do NOT try at home. - If you want to check out merch or just show support the links are below.
