Roberto Cavalli’s Spring 2009 collection didn’t fully embrace glamazon excess, nor did it lean into the dreamy elegance of the previous Spring — instead, it landed somewhere in between, with a touch of eclectic chaos. The runway opened with three-piece looks — jackets paired with short shorts or minis and exposed bras — in bold bandanna prints. Bustier dresses with faience fronts and bustle-like backs, clingy jersey cutouts recalling Tom Ford–era Gucci, and floaty chiffon parachute gowns gave the lineup its variety. The sheer off-the-waist gowns, a Cavalli signature, offered some of the show’s prettiest and most anticipated moments. Curiously absent were the brand’s iconic animal prints, even as they dominated elsewhere in Milan. The result?
