Just to the west of the city of Eindhoven in the Netherlands there is a town named Veldhoven. While it was originally a couple of small villages (one of which carried the name Veldhoven), the industrial boom of Eindhoven in the 20th century caused a lot of expansion in Veldhoven as well in the 20th century. Nowadays, it's a large suburban town with lots of residential neighbourhoods. But perhaps it's best known for hosting ASML, the world's largest semiconductor machine manufacturer and one of Europe's most valuable companies. This bike ride starts at the train station in Eindhoven, and ends just past the current center of Veldhoven (the old village's center is more towards the edge of the current town). This is a shopping mall that was built in the 70s and 80s, right in the middle of the newly built residential areas. Departing the station, we can still see some of the ground level bike parking, but after taking a turn we end up in the concrete jungle of Eindhoven Centraal. This area has seen a lot of modernist influences and it shows in the prominence of concrete infrastructure. After a few tunnels, we pass the stadium of PSV, one of the top three football clubs in the Netherlands. Then a long section follows where residential streets are interspersed with parks and wide roads. Eventually, we pass under the A2 motorway and officially enter Veldhoven. This bit is a little desolate, since the busway is currently being rebuilt, and apart from some offices, there are not many buildings around. Soon we enter the residential neighbourhoods of Veldhoven though, where we alternate through different decades of construction. We end our ride in the very 70s neighbourhood of Cobbeek.
