Tiered Puff-Sleeve Baby Frock Cutting & Stitching | Easy Step by Step Dress Welcome back! Today I’ll make this pretty blue floral tiered frock with puff sleeves, shoulder ties and two gathered tiers — perfect for a 3–4 year child. Follow along step-by-step! Materials & Notions • Main fabric (cotton/soft poplin) ~1.2–1.5 m • lightweight lining (optional) • soft elastic for sleeve & waist • 2 narrow strips for shoulder ties • matching thread • 1 small button or short back zipper • basic tools. Measurements to take Chest • Shoulder-to-waist • Frock length (neck to hem) • Armhole depth • Sleeve length. Pattern guide: Bodice width = chest ÷ 4 + 1 cm ease. Use 1 cm seam allowance and 2 cm hem Cutting (follow the look) 1. Bodice: Cut front on fold and two back pieces (for a small back opening). Bodice height = shoulder-to-waist. 2. Sleeves: Cut puff sleeve rectangles: width = armhole circumference × 1.8–2 (for full puff), height = desired sleeve length + 3 cm (for casing + hem). 3. Ties/Straps: Cut 2 neat strips (2–3 cm wide × strap length + SA). 4. Tier A (upper skirt): rectangle width = waist × 2, height = 1/2 of skirt drop. 5. Tier B (lower skirt): rectangle width = waist × 2.5–3, height = remaining skirt drop + hem. 6. Waist casing/band or separate waistband strip if you prefer elastic inside. Stitching — Bodice & Sleeves 1. Sew shoulder seams (right sides together). Finish seams. 2. Attach neckline binding or facing; understitch for a clean finish. 3. Prepare puff sleeves: fold top edge to form narrow casing, stitch leaving opening, insert soft elastic to create puff. Gather bottom slightly and finish with narrow hem or cuff. 4. Set sleeves into armholes easing puff fullness; secure and topstitch lightly if needed. 5. Add shoulder ties: attach each strap at front and back shoulder seam (or topstitch on top edge) so they hang like in the photo. Stitching — Skirt Tiers & Assembly 1. Finish raw edges of both tiers. Run two rows of basting along top edges and gather: Tier A to match bodice waist; Tier B to match lower edge of Tier A. 2. Attach Tier A to bodice waist (right sides together); press seam up. 3. Attach Tier B to the lower edge of Tier A so the ruffle shows full fullness. Press. 4. For the waist finish: either fold and stitch a waist casing, insert 1” elastic (measure child’s waist − 2 cm), or sew a separate waistband and add a small back zipper/button closure. Finishing Touches • Hem the skirt with a neat 2 cm turn. • Even out gathers and press gently. • Add a small back button or short zip for easy wearing. • Give a final steam press and check fit. This tiered puff-sleeve frock is ready — sweet, comfy and camera-ready! If you want the printable cutting layout or a short voiceover script for the full video, comment “PATTERN” below.
