Wide family picture of PES leaders STORYLINE The Party of European Socialists elected their new president, Bulgaria's Sergei Stanishev on Saturday. The election of Stanishev came as the group held its ninth Congress at the Square Meeting Centre in Brussels. "People are getting angry, I mean really angry because they suffer and Europe is perceived more and more as a negative force" said Stanishev before receiving 91.3 percent of the votes in his favour to become president. Stanishev, who took over as interim president in late 2011 after Poul Nyrup Rasmussen stepped down was the only person running for the job. At the congress, party members from all over Europe, as well as national party leaders outlined the necessity to push for social-democratic values in this time of austerity.
