Ahh, I love seeing spectacular infrastructure projects come to fruition! On this ride we head across the city to the 6th St. Bridge, also known as the 6th St. Viaduct. This bridge opened in July 2022 and connects the Arts District in Downtown LA with Boyle Heights in east LA, spanning about 0.75 mi over the LA River. It replaced an iconic bridge built in 1932 that was starting to corrode, and not only does the design of this new bridge reference the old one, but there are buckles on the columns of the bridge that allow it to withstand a 7.5-8 magnitude earthquake. And to top it all off, it has a protected bike lane on both sides! But the excitement doesn't stop there - we also go to a fabulous cafe and hit up some fancy fried chicken nearby.
