Sartoris, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, passed away on June 27, 2025, in Culver City, California, on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He was 97 years old and leaves a rich legacy of service to the people of God through his priesthood and episcopacy. "Bishop Joe" was ordained to the priesthood on May 30, 1953, and consecrated a bishop on March 19, 1994, on the feast of St. Joseph. He was admired for his deep spiritual life and he loved being a priest. He was always ready with a warm smile and generous service to all. He is survived by his sister Catherine Brammer, and nieces and nephews,
