This is the story of one of Los Angeles's pioneers. Her name is Elisabeth Waldo. She was born in Yakima, Washington in 1918 and was discovered for her musical talents by Yasha Heifetz. She worked with Bing Crosby, Yma Sumac and other great artists. She became enthralled with the music of ancient peoples from South America and at the suggestion of famed artist Diego Rivera she went out into the marketplace to meet the people and listen to the sounds of the instruments. She and her family still reside in the San Fernando Valley where her husband became the first president of the Northridge Chamber of Commerce and gave that town its name. Carl Dentzel was also the president of the SouthWest Museum and his contributions to western history are notable. The Elilsabeth Waldo story is one of a remarkable life that literally goes from the train tracks to the great performance halls of America. From the humblest of beginnings to meetings with Eleanor Roosevelt and playing in an orchestra led by Leopold Stokovsky the life of Elisabeth Waldo is a life well-lived.
