Band Bio: Rayella is a family band from Marlinja community, they have been playing around the Northern Territory for a couple of years but have been sitting around the campfires writing songs together for many years before that. Their songs are sung in both Mudburra and English and are stories of their country and strong messages full of passion and love for their family and culture. They have performed at festivals such as the Desert Harmony Festival, Barunga Festival and NAIDOC celebrations at Borroloola, as well as headlining many rodeos around the area. Eleanor Dixon the main singer of Rayella has been singing and song-writing since she was 16, she has studied music, majoring in voice at CASM Adelaide University and also Charles Darwin University. She has participated in the Music NT’s Barkly Diva’s program and performed solo at the Desert Harmony Festival. Eleanor has a powerful voice that is full of emotion and inspirational messages. Raymond Dixon the principle music composer of Rayella has been writing songs, playing guitar and singing all his life. He was a guitarist for the rocking 80′s band Kulamindini from Elliott and currently he is writing for Rayella and composing Gospel music in his own studio. With a contemporary and country flavor they are a unique sound full of heart that is not to be missed… Rayella is a family band from Marlinja Community, located approximately 730 kilometres south of Darwin in the remote Northern Territory of Australia. Raymond Dixon and his daughter Eleanor are the driving force behind the beautiful melodies and stories that emerge from the engaging music this group bring to any performance, be it a campfire sing along or at a festival in front of thousands. Lead singer Eleanor’s magical voice paired with her father's skilful guitar playing and harmonising captivate audiences with their emotive tunes about family, country and culture. Tyrone Dixon is a phenomenal talent on Lead Guitar, and cousins Ethan Godfrey and Adrian Dixon form a solid rhythm section to complete this inspiring tight knit unit. Eleanor has assumed an important role as a strong Indigenous female leader sharing her messages and stories to empower other females of all ages to feel confident and proud to step-up and chase whatever their dreams and goals in life may be. 2014 has been a huge year for Rayella with performances alongside their peers The Sandridge Band and Tjintu Desert Band at BAMFest (part of the 25th anniversary of the Desert Harmony Festival). They also opened for the highly respected Blekbala Mujik in Tennant Creek on their historic Greatest Hits tour and delivered an incredible set to thousands at Bush Bands Bash in Alice Springs in September. Eleanor become the first woman to be a part of Bush Bands Business, the three day professional development program which proceeds the concert and she is the first woman to perform in one of the bands on the bill. Brian Ritchie – Violent Femmes, Curator Mona Foma Festival. "Lead singer Eleanor Dixon is a talented and intelligent young woman who has the support of her family and peers to deliver powerful messages. ‘What Am I Doing Wrong?’, a song Eleanor penned with her female peers and audience in mind, passionately and unashamedly expresses the importance of women to feel self confidence in making music and share stories from their point of view. I recently had the privilege to work closely with Rayella at Bush Bands Business 2014, their astute music ability, enthusiasm; determination and desire to exceed will see them go far. Their distinct contemporary country tinged folk style draws a point of difference to the ubiquitous desert reggae sound."
