The World of Kite Flyers | Where the Sky Comes Alive

I am here at Bansera Park to witness the kite festival. It is truly something special, as this is an International Kite Festival. It is being developed in Delhi on the lines of Gujarat. I am deliberately using the word “developed” because, in Delhi, there is no major occasion for flying kites during Makar Sankranti. Here, kites are usually flown around August, close to Independence Day. Someone told me that compared to Gujarat, the number of kites flown in Delhi is probably not even 10 percent. Anyway, I reached here, bought my ticket, and went to the designated area inside Bansera Park where kite flying was taking place. People were flying kites everywhere. Many families had come with their children, while some individuals had come alone. Here, I saw kites being made live and also interacted with the artists who make them. At a short distance, I also saw kite strings (manjha) being prepared. All these activities were absolutely fascinating. Things that we had only heard about before could be seen live here, which made the experience very special. People were thoroughly enjoying themselves. There were food stalls and several shops where visitors could shop. A stage was also set up where colorful cultural performances were taking place. This entire event was organized by the DDA and the Delhi Government. I also spoke to many kite flyers. All these experiences have been shown in detail in this video.
