AT LAST, it's the 16th of June and the UK's rivers are back open to us angling addicts, so in this video I head down to the famous Throop fishery on the beautiful Dorset Stour. It's a river well-known for huge chub and can be fished on a day ticket (purchased in advance) from the Ringwood and District Angling Association website or local fishing tackle shops. Arriving at the river nice and early, I enjoy a magical opening day, targeting the wily old chub with free-lined and float fished baits including meat and pellets. The really big ones seem to have an in-built calendar, however, and behave differently from one day to the next, so would I succeed in fooling them...?
