What is health information exchange? Why is it important? Health information exchange (HIE) is the ability to securely share health information electronically. In this video, CUNY SPH Assistant Professor Karmen S. Williams shares examples of how HIE can reduce duplicate testing and build comprehensive health records. HIE is centered around patient-centered data homes, which provide more informed care for patients with real-time access to health records anytime, anywhere. The benefits of health information exchange include duplicate testing reduction and care coordination between different providers in different geographical areas. Providers can access patient's medical information electronically and securely share patient's health information. You'll learn more about the future of healthcare data in our MS program in Population Health Informatics.
