"In the current system, since the government itself is the buyer, the seller, transmitter and distributor of electricity... it conceals all the inefficiencies within itself. CTBCM is set to change all of that." Tauseef H. Farooqi served as the Chairman of NEPRA between 2019 and 2023 - and has an expert perspective on the dynamics of the power market in Pakistan. In the current structure, where the government is the single buyer of electrons - gross inefficiencies in the system have been putting a serious strain on the economy. In Mr. Farooqi's tenure as Chairman, NEPRA was able to devise a sustainable alternative market structure called "CTBCM" - which he believes is the only way forward. VCast sat down with Mr. Farooqi to discuss what CTBCM offers, the practicality of the model with the regulator, and how can we secure Pakistan's future.
