Francis Hubbard is a Deputy Team Leader for the New Zealand Red Cross Disaster Welfare and Support Team (DWST) in Auckland. In this video, he explains how Red Cross teams prepare for and respond to emergencies across Aotearoa New Zealand. When disasters strike – from floods and cyclones to earthquakes and fires – DWST members are trained to provide practical and emotional support to affected communities. This includes setting up evacuation centres, helping people access the support they need, and offering comfort during difficult moments. With 20 teams across the country, our teams work to ensure communities are supported when emergencies happen.
