This is the formula I built years ago — not to teach weight and balance, but to reverse-engineer it. Instead of starting with your load and asking “Where’s my CG?”, this lets you choose the CG you want and figure out exactly how to load the plane to hit it. It’s been one of the most useful tools I’ve come across — from building experimental aircraft like the modified RANS S-21, to flying out meat in the backcountry, to walking FAA reps through CG scenarios that weren’t adding up on paper. I walk through the math, show how I set it up in Excel, and explain how I use it in real-world cases — whether I’m loading baggage, troubleshooting a tailwheel scale reading, or validating empty weight CG with confidence. If this already exists online, great. But I hadn’t seen it — and it’s made a huge difference for me.
