Join me aka @thatcurlywanderer on an unforgettable escape into the heart of Sri Lanka’s jungle-fortress. I flew on Air India from Delhi to Colombo, and from there we took a smooth ~3-hour drive via the PickMe app to reach Sigiriya — the easiest & most affordable way compared to haggling local rides. We arrive at the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress with its 5th-century palace ruins, lion-paw entry and sweeping views across the jungle canopy. I’m taking you up the climb, through the ancient water gardens and fresco walls, and capturing cinematic views from the summit. 🎥 Video highlights: • Boarding in Delhi → landing in Colombo • Entry experience into Sigiriya Fort — hike, best viewpoint • My stay: Palmyra Nature Resort Sigiriya (link below) — perfect jungle-retreat close to the rock. • Best times of day is to reach there early morning the gates open at 7AM to explore as it gets pretty sunny as sun comes all the way to top! Stay recommendation: Palmyra Nature Resort, Sigiriya — book via Booking.com here: https://www.booking.com/hotel/lk/palm... It’s well-reviewed, has a great pool and a quiet location near the fortress. Best time to visit Sigiriya: For great weather and clear views, January to April is ideal — the climate is moderate and suited for day-trips. Early morning climbs are smart (cooler, fewer crowds) or late afternoon if you prefer golden light. Entry ticket(for SAARC) was ~ 6000 LKR Travel tips: • Book your ride (PickMe) in advance from the airport — saves hassle and over-pricing. • Wear good shoes — the climb has steep metal stairs and can be slippery if wet. • Carry water and sunscreen — it’s hot and humid even in ‘dry’ season and you won't find any water/food stalls inside the fortress. • Stay somewhere near the rock the night before or after to catch sunrise/sunset. • Respect the site — modest clothing (cover knees & shoulders) and follow path signs. If you enjoy slow-cinematic travel with immersive visuals, this journey’s for you — from Delhi skies to Sri Lanka’s ancient stone palace in the clouds.
